Rules of Conduct for GPCDFA

Welcome to the Greater Panama City Dog Fanciers Association, Inc. The following is a list of rules drafted to ensure safety and consideration for you, your dog and others with their dogs during classes and practice sessions.

  1. Have fun with your dog!
  2. All owner/handlers must sign – in upon arrival.
  3. You MUST pick-up after your dogs.
  4. No puppies under 10 weeks of age are permitted to train.
  5. Because of the danger for stress and/or injury to growing limbs and joints, and the different rates of maturity of breeds, please check with our training director regarding whether your dog is mature/capable of using certain equipment.
  6. Unless you are actively working with your dog off leash, keep him/her on leash at all times while in the training areas. Please do not allow your dog to visit without the consent from the other dog’s owner.  Some dogs do object.
  7. You are welcome to bring a crate or you may keep your dog in your vehicle outside.  Remember though it gets really hot really quick around here and shade is limited.
  8. Do not overwork your dog. For most, 30 to 45 minutes is plenty. Keep your dog wanting more and he/she will always love playing Flyball, Obedience and Agility.
  9. If you wish to stop practicing to chat, or when you are finished your session for the moment, please move off the course area so as not to be in the way of people and dogs still practicing.
  10. GPCDFA reserves the right to refuse or excuse any dog or person from these sessions for any reason they see fit. Especially excused will be THOSE HUMANS AND DOGS SHOWING AGGRESSION to people or other dogs, or any uncontrolled behavior.
  11. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to ask. If we can’t help you, we will try to find someone who can.
  12. Members will be expected to help get equipment out and pack away at each session.
  13. If you have children and need to bring them to the training sessions please make sure they behave and do not distract the dogs and owners during the session. Parents please be reminded that the responsibility for their children’s safety and conduct is theirs and not the clubs.
  14. Always examine the agility obstacles yourself and make sure the safety bolts are in place. If you have a question about the safety/stability of a particular obstacle, please do not send your dog over it, and call it to the attention of an instructor or club member.
  15. Only buckle collars are permitted while working on the agility obstacles. Use of choke collars or pinch collars is forbidden as they may injure your dog if caught on an obstacle. Other collars may be used on the grounds when your dog is not working the obstacles.
  16. Use caution when working your dog on the course with a leash. The leash could be caught on the equipment (do not allow a long leash to drag across a contact obstacle). As soon as you have good verbal control of your dog (stay, come, down) and your dog has displayed self-confidence on the obstacles, you may discontinue use of the leash. Leashes can be extremely dangerous.
  17. Use of the Agility equipment is restricted to Dog/Handler teams that have completed an Introduction or Beginner’s Agility course.  If you received your training outside of our club, please check with the training director or an instructor before using the equipment.
  18. All dogs should have a current copy of their shot records on file with the club.
